Vocalpoint - Never Buy Wrapping Paper Again
Vocalpoint - Never Buy Wrapping Paper Again Going green is good. And it’s easier than you think: You can find plenty of items around the house that you can reuse and recycle as gift wrap. Here are six ideas we love to wrap it all up—and escape that mountain of torn wrapping paper.Kids’ artwork. What parent doesn’t have sheets of their kids’ “masterpieces” lying around? There’s only so much fridge and folder space for these works of art, which is why giving them new life as wrapping paper is a great reuse. Plus, it will give the grandparents a double treat!Old maps. GPS has pretty much made maps a thing of the past for some people. If your family has some old road atlases around, rip out a few pages and use them to wrap up gifts this holiday season. Especially nice for family and friends who have moved away.Fabric. Don’t be so literal with the idea of wrapping “paper.” Fabric works well too—whether it’s leftover material from that Halloween costume you attempted to sew, a scarf you haven’t worn in a while, cloth napkins, or bandannas. Still have your grown-up child’s baby blanket? Wrap it around a gift.If you don’t have something around the house, check thrift shops for dirt-cheap supplies. Then flip through the new book The Wrapping Scarf Revolution by Patricia Lee (Leisure Arts, 2009) for ways you can wrap a present using fabric. You’ll never get tangled up with tape again!Clothing. You can use a sweater, shirt, even gloves that you’re giving as a gift to wrap around another small gift. Giving something tubular? Why not use a fun pair of socks to hold it?
